
AMES, Iowa – The NASA Iowa Area Grant Consortium announced these days that Sara Nelson will provide as interim director.
Nelson is currently on the leadership group for the ISGC as assistant director for education and learning and outreach and is the point out STEM professional for Iowa Point out College Extension and Outreach. She also teaches science and literacy strategies classes at the School of Education and is included in a wide variety of STEM study assignments.
As ISGC interim director, Nelson will oversee the ISGC, a part of NASA’s Countrywide Place Grant School and Fellowship Software. The ISGC strives to improve and inspire Iowa’s STEM potential. The ISGC supports aerospace study, education and outreach actions for all Iowans with NASA internships, fellowships, and scholarships, competitions for grants within just higher education customers, as properly as informal schooling grants with outreach affiliates.
In addition, Nelson will oversee the Set up Plan to Encourage Competitive Investigate. This program works to build partnerships with governing administration, bigger education and marketplace that are developed to outcome long lasting enhancements in Iowa’s exploration infrastructure, potential and competitiveness.
Nelson and her workforce will go on to build STEM educational materials and STEM encounters in her function as Iowa 4-H STEM professional and educate lessons at the College of Education and learning.

Nelson obtained her Ph.D. in literacy schooling and M.Ed. in science schooling from Iowa Point out College. She has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and learning from Luther University.
In addition to her function at Iowa Point out College, Nelson co-chairs the range, equity and inclusion doing the job group for the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council and is a committee member on the North Central STEM Advisory Board for the Governor’s STEM Council, and the Science and Little ones Advisory Board of the Countrywide Science Educating Affiliation.
